Born in 1990 in Fort-de-France, Olivain Porry is an artist and PhD in research and creation from PSL University (SACRe - EnsadLab). Trained at the Nantes School of Fine Arts, he lives and works in Paris. His research focuses on the sociotechnical challenges of contemporary technologies, which he explores through plastic and cybernetic forms.
Toasters that talk to each other by hitting the ground, fans that twist, receipt printers that vote, or even video conferences of parrots... These elements take part in installations with the appearance of hybrid collectives, where each object plays an active role in the system. Olivain Porry designs these assemblages as relational systems capable of producing interactions between the works, the spectators, and the environment. He seeks to blur the boundaries between human, technology, and living beings, to bring forth new forms of attention and coexistence.
Between 2019 and 2022, he conducted doctoral research titled 'Communities of Machines', under the supervision of Samuel Bianchini, within the Reflective Interaction group of EnsadLab. This theoretical and practical work focuses on defining the conditions for the emergence of a collective in installations populated by technical objects. It proposes a creation approach based on negotiation, functional drift, and shared writing between artists and technical systems.
In 2024, he co-founded Les Éditions du Respirateur, an experimental editorial structure dedicated to conceptual, poetic, and critical forms of publishing.
